A Touching Story

Pencil: I’m sorry

Eraser: For what? You didn’t do anything wrong.
Pencil: I’m sorry because you get hurt because of me. Whenever I made a mistake, you’re always there to erase it. But as you make my mistakes vanish, you lose a part of yourself. You get smaller and smaller each time.
Eraser: That’s true. But I don’t really mind. You see, I was made to do this. I was made to help you whenever you do something wrong. Even though one day, I know I’ll be gone and you’ll replace me with a new one, I’m actually happy with my job. So please, stop worrying. I hate seeing you sad.
I found this conversation between the pencil and the eraser very inspirational.
Parents are like the eraser whereas their children are the pencil. They’re always there for their children, cleaning up their mistakes. Sometimes along the way, they get hurt, and become smaller / older, and eventually pass on.
Though their children will eventually find someone new (spouse), but parents are still happy with what they do for their children, and will always hate seeing their precious ones worrying, or sad. All my life, I’ve been the pencil.
And it pains me to see the eraser that is my parents getting smaller and smaller each day. For I know that one day, all that I’m left with would be eraser shavings and memories of what I used to have.

Moral: We never know the love of our parents for us till we have become parents.

Dear Sara, I beg to differ on your inference about Parents being ERASERS and the children, PENCILS.
I would rather go for CORPORATE EMPLOYERS as PENCILS and the EMPLOYEES as ERASERS.
Employees work their lives out on jobs and get replaced by the Companies when they are spent and retired.
    What do you think?

Heart touching story, most of us feel regret for having NOT given required attention / time to our parents as we grow up.

These are all funny yar….coz all parents are do there responsibalities oly..not oly parents even every one on this earth will live for their needs oly not for others….Love, care & frindship these are all obtained & given oly when ever we feel…means all are live in selfish….live for selfish…but we must and should respect our seniors and parents otherwise definitely we will take punish from nature…

I saw in dream my parents, and we all were weaping together, Its really a heart touching story, even
if i saw in dreams to my parents i weap. Yes you are right They are erasers, we are all pencils.
we do mistake and they forgive us. The Great Great God also will forgive us Inshallah like our parents, at the time of judgement. This is my request to our pencils to take care our erasers that is our parents.
They should not tell to their parents even “UFF” In Quran Allah Subhanahu wa Tala instructed us.

Thanks Sara for always keeping us informed. The Pencil/Eraser story is amazingly true.

  27. Dr. Md. Golam Mostafa April 22, 2012 at 9:44 AM #

This is one of the natural laws that Allaah has created and imparted to human being including other animals. To make the law of love between parents and children easily understood, the example of pencil and eraser is quite appropriate and is a continuous process. Thanks to the writer who has written this story to make us understand the moral.

  28. MSalim April 21, 2012 at 1:54 PM #

its actually a wisdom that requires to be treasured no matter what angers the pencil always a second thought of the eraser that nutured and cleaned all the rubbish made by the pencil. eraser is a treasure. And what ur spouse cant do most times the eraser can comfortably do it for the pencil without complaints because our parents love is greater.

There are some laws of nature. God assigned different duties to
each. If any one fails partly or completely to perform given assignment
the nature reject him or her.

  37. Nizamhm March 10, 2012 at 3:47 AM #

If we use the eraser too much, one day we will lose the eraser and there wont be any one to erase our wrongs. So make use the eraserscarefully until the life time of the pencil.

    • Dr. Md. Golam Mostafa April 22, 2012 at 9:59 AM #

      Dear Nizam,

Thank you very much for your important comment. Uses of too much of any thing are unacceptable and costly, and you have rightly pointed out the point. Parents should be educated enough to understand the psychology of their children and make them corrected their wrong doings. Too much control may sometimes causes children to be spoiled, to be corrupted, to be disloyal, to be unfriendly, and overall to be produced unexpected results.

      Best regards,
      Dr. Mostafa

Really touchy.  Represents true facts of life.  An eye opener for those whose parents are still alive.  For those unfortunate, like me it is too late to make any correction since the parents are no more!
