I respect this energetic activity. To work hard to gain from your effort is considered a worship in Islam. Our Prophet Mohammad (piece be upon him) said: A PERSON WHO GOT TIRED FROM HIS WORK AT THE END OF THE DAY GETS FORGIVENESS FROM ALLAH IN THAT DAY.
Rasak is right. A fishing festival such as in this video is not an indication of hardship or poverty. It rather shows enthusiasm and keen competition on the part of the fishermen. There may be hardship and poverty elsewhere in Africa but to portray this happy festival as a sign of hardship is way off the mark and therfore misleading.

Sara, please stop misinforming people about Africa. This is just an annual fishing festival and competition in Mali where the lake is left for one year to allow the fishes grow well. The fisherman with the biggest fish wins the competition. There is a similar festival in Nigeria. Life is hardest in Asia not Africa please.
