The worried housewife sprang to the telephone when it rang and listened with relief to the kindly voice in her ear.
“How are you, darling?” it said. “What kind of a day are you having?”
“Oh, mother,” said the housewife, breaking into bitter tears, “I’ve had such a bad day. The baby won’t eat and the washing machine broke
down. I haven’t had a chance to go shopping, and besides, I’ve just sprained my ankle and I have to hobble around. On top of that, the
house is a mess and I’m supposed to have two couples over for dinner tonight.”
The mother was shocked and was at once all sympathy.
“Oh, darling,” she said, “sit down, relax, and close your eyes. I’ll be over in half an hour. I’ll do your shopping, clean up the house, and cook your dinner for you. I’ll feed the baby and I’ll call a repairman I know who’ll be at your house to fix the washing machine promptly. Now stop crying. I’ll do everything. In fact, I’ll even call Shafeeq at the office and tell him he ought to come home and help out for once.”
“Shafeeq?” said the housewife. “Who’s Shafeeq?”
“Why, Shafeeq! Your husband!… Isn’t this 223-1374?”
“No, this is 232-1374.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. I guess I have the wrong number.”
There was a short pause and the housewife said, “Does this mean you’re not coming over?”

well, i suppose its the mothers fault for dialing d wrong no.
The first blame goes to the caller for not checking to ensure she’s got the right phone number, thereby giving her supposed daughter false hopes.
Secondly, the daughter is supposed to know her mothers voice pretty well and not mistake someone else’ voice for her mother’s. Additionally, the daughter must be lazy to have piled up these volume of house chores before making any attempt at tidying them up.
However, it’s a good one for those who have an open mind to learning.

first of all it’s a very nice story, moreover I think it’s both problem since the mother have to make sure when she is dailing, furthermore, she should not solve all her daughter problem she must teach her to manage her self.
And for the wife she must know that she have manage everything by her self and not keep every in the same time I think she need to learn the time management

I don’t think that there is someone to blame, the mum wrongly dialed the number and this can happen with everyone.
I would blame the wife because she must be able to notice her mother’s voice on phone from another woman’s voice. In addition to that, she would have noticed the number calling is not her mom’s number.
However, I strongly blame the husband, how can he leave home to work while his wife is in all this mess.
The wife should not be disappointed, she should take the woman’s advice , relax in order to find solutions, don’t panic, call her mom, call her husband, or even call her best friend.
Maybe this call was a good coincidence to tell her ” don’t panic, relax every problem has a solution, call your beloved ones they would help you.”

second, i think the “mother” should help the “daughter” out because the daughter really needs help and the mother almost made her day!

What a disappointing coincidence !
1- The mistake is clearly from the mother who dialed the wrong number .
2- If there’s anyone who is to be blamed, then it would be the wife+husband for not being able to handle the situation properly (wife with baby, mechanical problems, shopping, dinner invitation for 2 couples, not physically fit ) , it’s all just too much for one person to handle in just one day . They should have chose the proper time like on a weekend or so .
If i was the mother who called by mistake ,at the end i would have adviced the poor wife to call her husband and ask for his immediate assistance !!! oresle to cancel the invitation .
Common sense ….. we simply can ‘t focus on more than one thing at a time .
