It is very simple:
• Put a line in a drum to the level of water
• Close the drum by glasses
• Upside dawn the drum
• See the level of water
• If the level of water less than the line in the drum then the water less than half
• If the level of water above the line in the drum then the water more than half

Both r right, one is taking about the water in the drum and the other is talking about the air in the drum!!!

Without using any measuring tools and without removing any water from the drum how can they easily determine who is correct?

Let them call someone else. Let them measure, then these guys can understand who is right and who is not. (Question doesnt insist to do everything by themselves, so it is possible to have the help of a third person).

that’s really strange question, to know the level of the water, they can simply look at the water inside the drum from the place where the lids are supposed to be and then they can predict which one of is on the right speech.
well, a drum without a lid that means it’s opened from the two sides and can’t keep water? =P maybe the husband was just teasing the wife and it worked XD or maybe it was a resumed problem about a lack of salt in the meal or something hehehehe wish all having a great time with their wives =P

you have to be the Water so you can tell.
it depends on, how you look at the drum, from the bottom to the level of the water or from the upper edge of the drum down to the level of water. In other words: are they commenting on the filled part of the drum or on the empty part of the drum.
In tilting the drum diagonally a little, if the water near the top and they can’t see the opposit point in the bottom it means more than the half.
If they can see part of the bottom of the drum it means less than the half.

Family Solution: Husband must agree to wife’s point of view.
Technical Solution: Take a stick (preferably wooden) equal to or longer that the depth of the drum. Submerge it in the water till it touches the bottom of the drum. Take the stick out and touch the bottom end of stick to the water surface, if the submerged portion of the stick is higher than the drum top edge, water is more than half full drum and if it remains below to edge of the drum, water is less than half full drum.

Both are right…… if you measure from bottom its more than half full and if you measure from top, its less than half full.
Is it important that one is right and one is wrong?
What about using the water as if there is less than half a drum and then it is a blessing if there is more….and next time they will have a better idea and in the time being, an even greater blessing of harmony in the home.

It is simple, all they have to do is to agree and mark half of the drum from outside just by looking. and then make a hole in that level, if water flows it is more than half and if it does not then it is less than half.

put a long stright wood stick in the drum till it reaches the bottom,
then pull it out and mesure the wet part from the dry part that reaches to the top of the drum. as simple as that.

I think they have to knock the drum from outside to find out the amount of water is above or below half ,noting that the sound of empty part is different from the sound of the full part.

I think they have to incline the drum until the water reaches the top edge. if the bottom appear, this means the level is bellow half or vice versa.

Put similar amount of water from another drum & add it to the first drum to see if it will pour or not
