You are driving along in your small car on a stormy night, it’s raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and see three people waiting for a bus:
1. An old man who might die if not taken to hospital immediately.
2. Your old friend who once saved your life.
3. Your Aunt who take care of you when you were a child.
Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car?
* You could pick up the old man, because he is going to die, and thus you should save him first.
* Or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back.
* Your Aunt since she is your relative & took care of you when you were a child.
The Best Answer is:
Give the car keys to the Old friend and let him take the old man to the hospital. Stay behind and wait for the bus with your Aunt to help her reach home safely.
On the assumption that the hospital is fairly close, to save his life, I will drop the old man to the hospital first. I will then rush back to the bus stop, and if found both my aunt and friend still waiting and being a lady, offer aunt a lift.
I would definitely rush the old man to the hospital to save a life just as when my friend once saved mine. Since it was a dilemma, my aunty and friend are also the best people I have, they would understand without having to explain anything to them. If by the time I return they were there, then I would decide how we move out with them. Period
Some comments are silly as to my point of view. Because for me, the purpose of life is not to always paying back the good deed that a person did to you or taking into consideration your relationship to that person. it will always depend on the situation and the need of it. Saving the old man’s life should be the first thing to do. The bestfriend and aunt should understand that without any question. Now if you are done saving the man’s life, you can always come back to the bus stop to see who is next to be saved.
If it is me, then i will ask my friend to get in the car with old man in back seat and i will ask my aunt to sit in front seat with me, then we all together to to hospital to drop the old man then to friends home to drop him then with aunt to my home.
Blow your horn and wave to all of them as you drive by.
If my old friend does not know how to drive????????
Just kidding…
Good job, keep it up.
Thanks jahfer.
Kept it up 🙂
This was actually question asked as ethical dilemma in our professional ethics class. The main purpose of this dilemma was to make people realize that sometime you have to think out of box. By the way, there was you old girl friend instead of Aunt. Definitely you wanted to spend time with your GF, save sick person and enjoy with your old friend. in this situation, you have to think out of box. Be Happy.

If I was in such situation, I would give the car to my old friend who saved my life and because he knows how to save the life of people, I will ask him to take care of the old man and take him to the hospital
I myself would stay with my Aunt under umbrella waiting for buss.
The “best answer” offered is very good indeed; however, it’s not an answer to the question that was asked. If the question “What would you do?” had been asked, the “best answer” would have been appropriate.
I think that the car can carry all of three, so why not take along all of them???????
The old man needs immediate treatment. Old Aunt also may get sick if had to wait or walk in rains but you are definitely going to enjoy rains with your old friend and by spending time with your friend and offering coffee in this rain would be the best wat to say thanks for saving your life.
So isn’t it a good idea to give the keys to your Aunt to take the old man to the hospital and she would be a good company too and no need to worry she will in any case not steal your car either.
Wouldn’t you do the same if a beautiful girl is waiting instead of your old friend.
if old friend could not drive car then…………….. first of all you take old man to hospital.
most practical solution
Think out of the box 🙂
Why the oldman is on road in raining when he knows he is sick and where are his son/daughter to take care him. when no one from his own family can take care him, it means he want to commit suicide, so let him stay in rain. Now the friend is still OK I can say him dear see u later and then will take my aunty to home.
lol
it’s easy
i know it
it’s easy
Hi,Sara : I agree with this answer

I would take the old man to the hospital, and than come back and pick my aunt or whom ever lives near by and than pick the last passenger.
Give the car keys to the Old friend and let him take the old man to the hospital. Stay behind and wait for the bus with your Aunt to help her reach home safely.
ha ha ha… but it’s raining…!! what if the bus didn’t arrive I’ll be wet and sick and my aunt my get sick toooo..:(

Or I just keep driving without letting them see me. Since I know I can’t take my friend and my aunt togethet so i’ll skip the embarracement. And I know nothing about the old man unless I stop. But if they see me then my first answer will do.
Too complecated……….I could take the old man to hospital and leave my good friend with my aunt. If my aunt doesn’t understand then the hell with her!
very arrogant attitude
stupid answer
silly & old one … 😛
a good solution
and the chance for that to hapen is??
i’ll think about that when it hapen
so the old man is the only one who’s going to die if i left him behind.. then i’ll take him.. what’s the point of taking my aunt or my old friend if they’re okay.
i will get off the car ,, and ask my old friend to take that person to the hospital ,, my aunt will be with me ,,,
I’m afraid whether the old man is able to drive
amazing answer 🙂 …

i think there was a better version of this ? but this one is also good
wow good one sara….. i didn’t answer the question….
If the friend happens to drive, that is……
My Answer will be same as mention above i will give car key to my old friend.
Good One Sara
Maybe your friend steel your car and he does not take the old sick man to hospital and then you stay with your aunt and the bus would not come either
But ur friend saved ur life so i dont think he will steal the car
you dont know when they can turn on you =P
