British Man and the Sheikh

A British man came to Sheikh and asked: Why is it not permissible in Islam for women to shake hands with a man?

The Sheikh said: Can you shake hands with Queen Elizabeth?

British man said: Of course not, there are only certain people who can shake hands with Queen Elizabeth.

Sheikh replied: our women are queens and queens do not shake hands with strange men.

Then the British man asked the Sheikh: Why do your girls cover up their body and hair?

The Sheikh smiled and got two sweets, he opened the first one and kept the other one closed. He threw them both on the dusty floor and asked the British: If I asked you to take one of the sweets which one will you choose?

 The British replied: The covered one.

 The Sheikh said: that’s how we treat and see our women.

    You have missed the real meaning or the purpose of the joke. interpreting out of context will lead you to think women are treated as consumables. Men and Women are equal in Islam but not identical. If your teenage son and daughter sitting inside your home in a hall watching TV with bare chest, whom you will ask to cover. Sure you will ask your daughter to cover her chest. you won’t say they are equal let both of them sit bare chest. Hope you undestand the meaning in correct context.

    The Sheikh explained to the British man in way that could
    be easily understood, And no wonder that when Allah SWT, orders us to do
    something, its just for our own good, so the veil is what defines the
    Muslim Woman, it brings modesty & decency of behavior to the

    I am a Muslim, I would like to explain at least in my country, no one force girls or women to cover their body and hair. In Islam, girls and women have same rights as men, sometimes they take more, for example, the husband should work and spend in the house and if the wife want to work, she has a right to keep her salary and the only person should spend in house is the husband. all my sisters are doctors,  my mother was a teacher, my wife is a  n engineer. all of them cover their hair, they took this decision  by their self.   I agree with you that the sweet example is wrong. the true Muslim should respect the women should look to them as human beings as they are his mother, his sisters, his wife and as our messenger Mohammed learned us. in his last instruction, he asked Muslims to take care of women. our messenger never never injustice or strike even high his voice for a women. unfortunately, currently some Muslims do not understand the true Islam.

    Girls and Sweet:-
    The Sheikh treat girls as consumable item, not human being. How they think about their son and father? Will they cover them too? Don’t treat the girls only for enjoyment. Treat them as a human being and equal rights should be given same like your self to the others. Keeping the girls with in closed room or covered with thick cloths will never give purity. Let them come out and do job. Let them learn decent life in the world. Lot of changes in Malaysia, Sri Lanka and in India for the girls rights and their self respect. The sweet example is wrong.

      because us women arent treated only for enjoyment in islam. However,
      its the media that treats women as candy when women in the media are portrayed as objects to give satisfaction in advertisements. islam actually encourages women to recieve an education and gives women the option to get into the workforce, yet, many people assume that islam deprives women of these basic rights.Women cover themselves in order to be treated equally to take the focus off the different genders and to eliminate the attractivness and gender bias as men have been scientifically proven to have a greater desire towards women rather than the other way around. keeping women dressed in modest clothing surely maintains their purity as the women arent exposed for show and “try before you buy”. This maintains the womens high social status and protects them.

      Islam is the only religion that give equal right to women, take for example, property and inheritance rights.  Can you tell me any other religion give equal right to women in this matter?

      Most girls choose to obey God by covering up and are not forced to do so.  Who said “They’re kept within closed rooms or covered with thick cloths”? They’re free to go out in the world and enjoy it and do not have to wear thick cloths– they can wear clothes as light as they like, as long as they meet the requiements of hijab.
      Muslim female have a right as much as anybody else to lead a decent, respectble life.
      Look at these great Msulim women!

      What you have said, is every enemy of Islam have been saying until the time Islam started. My friend, you are absoluetly wrong, because that’s what people like you would say, ask our women (not the ones have tendencies as betrayer) and find out how the path shown in Islam changed their lives and made them happy. You are judging Islam only with your point of view, try Islam for a while and find out the truth about it, about your existence, about your success. Our women doesn’t have any problem with Islam.

      What kinda purity, decent life you are talking about? Start to have sex with anyone at the age 11, going out on week end, get drunk, standing out in cold to get in the pub, swearing at anyone (including parents), love animal more than human being, you name it, you are calling all the craps as purity, decent, get yourself educated before you talk about it.       Obviously your little brain did not understand!  Just look at how the west treats women and then look at how Islam treats women.  Islam doesn’t treat women/girls as sex object but rather like a sweet flower.  Sorry but you are just ignorant!

    This is a very nice one jazaki Allah khairan!
    BUT, I have read in many places, that shaking hands with a man is permitted IF the intention isn’t wrong. For example working partners, teachers, patients or other innocent hand shakings… And I think, that it’s right but Allahu a3lam!

        Salam 3alaikum brother Ahmad
        Peace be upon Him. That’s right, but I for example live in Europe, and to me more precise I live in Denmark. This country is known for the caricature of Muhammad Sallah Allahu 3alaihi wa sallam. And many people are very critical when they see muslim people. And as you can see on my picture, Alhamdu lillah I wears the right islamic clothing and I do all the things that I has to do as a muslim. Now, I studies and when I study, I have male teachers. Sometimes you really have to shake hands with them. I wouldn’t just shake hands with anyone, BUT if you don’t shake hands with men as a muslim girl/woman, they begin talking about islam as a religion, which oppresses women and that harms our religion in peoples minds….I don’t know but that’s my opinion…

          Assalamu Alaykum Sister, What is the necessary to shake hands with Male teachers.if they want to appreciate or congratulate by words its enough. In India Hindus good Ladies also avoiding shake hands & If anybody going to shake hands with them they joint their hands & say In Hindi Piranaam, Namaskaar In Tamil Vanakkam Like this they are saying. Not only Islam, if you look nun they are fully covered. In India & Many Countries like this. the new western culture only destroying everything. If you are not hand shake, they are talking about Islam religion, nothing will happen. Maybe the ladies going to do shake hands with unauthorized people, their relationship slowly get close after that something wrong will happen. The Culprit will destroy them slowly. They are making affection slowly with them by admirable words, sms, Mails & while chatting. In Practical life we have example more. Even Father & brother have limitation. I Heard In India & World father did wrong relation with own daughter Why this Happening because they are passing the limits. I am sorry to publish this. If you have more doubts, you can check with Dr Zakir Nayak Books & You can ask questions through mails I think.

But I would like to tell you a hadith that should make things clear. It was narrated that Ma’qil ibn Yassaar said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “For one of you to be stabbed in the head with an iron needle is better for him than that he should touch a woman who is not permissible for him.” Narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer
      This hadees very clearly shows that even touching non mahram people is haram. So shaking hands is out of question!!

          If Denmark or any other modern culture city, It is depend upon you. You can avoid the hand shake sister. Qur’an & Prophed Muhammad (sallallahu) words match all place of people & Time of people.if i see denmark or not see prophed Muhammad said finish no need argue more sister.
