The Hijab, My Hijab – A Poem

seaside-beach-caspian-2424286-h

You question me why I wear this
You ask and wonder why
And even if you don’t question
The thoughts in your mind fly

Is it because she is forced?
Is it because she is poor?
Oh pity the young woman
Wearing this cloth like a fool

Well, think as you will
But do you know the truth?
That my hijab is my identity
For my religion it is proof?

I am proud to wear on my head
And I don’t hesitate for it I will defend

The hijab, the hijab
My cloth of identity
The shawl you see on my head
Is the command from his Majesty

A hijab is more than just a fabric
Its the act that brings morality
If you wonder its purpose
Then know it defines nobility

Another purpose of this piece
Is an assurance of tranquility
And it is not the outside that matters
But my inner personality

My hijab, My hijab
the sign of my piety
The picture of faith
the displayer of responsibility

This decision I made
is a blessing bestowed on me
and I am eternally grateful
for this nourisher of purity

Hijab is more than what it seems
the garment of true beauty
its something I wish you wore too
the perservance of our dignity

its a way for others to know I am steadfast
its the act of integrity
what more can I ask for
so why do you show me hostility?

I wear this out of free choice
So please don’t pity me
Its my will and my opinion
on my own authority

my hijab my hijab
I pledge to wear for all eternity
This dress code of mine
Is the biggest act of liberty

I don’t care what others think
I don’t care what others say
For I am proud to be wearing this hijab
It is my type of living, my choice of way
