Do You Have So Much Patience?

A woman in a supermarket is following a grandfather and his badly behaved 5 year-old grandson.

It’s obvious to her that he has his hands full with the child screaming for sweets in the sweet aisle, biscuits in the biscuit aisle; and for fruit, cereal and pop in the other aisles.

Meanwhile, Granddad is working his way around, saying in a controlled voice, “Easy, Ahmed, we won’t be long . . .. Easy, ..”

Another outburst and she hears the Granddad calmly say, “It’s okay, Ahmed, just a couple more minutes and we’ll be out of here. Hang in there, boy.”

At the checkout, the little terror is throwing items out of the cart and Granddad says again in a controlled voice, “Ahmed, Ahmed, relax buddy, don’t get upset. We’ll be home in five minutes; stay cool, Ahmed.”

Very impressed, the woman goes outside where the grandfather is loading his groceries and the boy into the car. She says to the elderly gentleman, “It’s none of my business, but you were amazing in there. I don’t know how you did it. That whole time, you kept your composure, and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying things would be okay. Ahmed is very lucky to have you as his grandpa.”

“Thanks,” exclaims the grandfather, “but I’m Ahmed … The little devil’s name is Waleed.”

I do not understand why the old grandpapa uttered his own name to console his grand son. Kindly justify such utterance.

@ B.N.Das: The hrandfather named ahmed was not consoling his devil grand kid, he was consoling himself, he was talking to himself

I totally agree with shakil, my children are adults now, but when they were younger they knew I would not tolerate any bad behaviour, one time when they were teenagers, they started arguing with each other at the airport, I just walloped both of them. A little spanking never hurt anyone.

I’d have packed a wallop long time. In fact I did in the time. ONE time 1st and LAST time. It works. I do NOT tolerate unruly kids…yes some will say kids are kids….and I agree but……

Well I agree that kids need to be disciplined but I think what ahmed was doing was self control talk which is very effective in situations which are provoking you react.
