King & the Ascetic

Once a King was riding through the country surrounded by his courtiers and soldiers. Everyone bowed to the king as he passed by, except for an ascetic.

The King halted his procession and had the ascetic brought to him. He demanded to know why the man did not bow to him.

The ascetic replied, ‘ Let all these people bow to you. They all want what you have-money, power, rank. Thank God these things mean nothing to me.’

Then he added, ‘Further more, a free man will never bow to a slave.’

The King cried: ‘What you mean?’

The ascetic said calmly: ‘You are a slave to anger, greed and fame.’

Looking the King full in face he said: ‘ I have made them my servants and become a free man’

Recognizing the truth of what he heard, the King saluted the ascetic & left.

Moral: Human Nature desires power that is owned by God only, so never become slave of your desires, but become slave of the God alone.

    First off, very nice!
Next, i think the moral should be something like this:
“This Dunya is full of unimportant [things] so do for your Hereafter because in it, everything is important.”?!?
i dnt know if that good but i put it in simple english lol
    Thanks 😀

the moral of the story (king and ascetic) is                                                                       God creates us free    We will never let anything make us slaves .

when you can’t overcome anger, greed and fame you are a slave even if you are a king, but when you overcome them you are a king even if you are poor man.

We have heard all of this anger, greed etc etc etc, Pride before a fall, but Sara, your nail has hit the Head directly through this Ascetic man, as we live our lives like the king, with all this ego, character assasination, gossip etc etc & still are not happy, because we are slaves of all the above & we need to be like the Ascetic man & surrender ourselves to the Almighty, as there is nothing impossible for him, whereever anything is impossible, he says I M POSSIBLE, so don’t be my slave, but my follower, as just be honest in whatever you do for the good & the kingdom of heaven will accept you in open arms. God Bless All.

      Rightly said Stephen.

Hi Sara : The ascetic man convince the king that bow only for GOD not for the slave ,that why the king cried. Thanks

never give up to greed anger, or money and you will be a king or your life

or give me your money, you’ll be happier without it

but i think we should change the ending to the king killed that man, it’s more logical

Moral of the Story: Anger, Greed & Fame become servants to the servant of Allah.

  23. Misk September 16, 2011 at 11:08 AM #

This is sort of unrealistic, in real life this would probably end with killing this man.

    It is a good lesson for all of us. I must add a MORAL for this story;

Moral: If you beg from GOD, you beg from one, otherwise you beg from every one.

The moral of the story of the KIng and the Ascétic could be:

“Being a slave of God is better than being a king of the world!” or

“Make your point/speak the truth in the right time, place, context and before the right person, in order to reach the hearts”

the more materialistic things you gain in life, the more chained you get, to really be above all we need to extinguish our greed for worldly possessions.

  30. Njavaid80 September 16, 2011 at 6:41 AM #

Always keep in mind the death, which makes a person away from money, power and rank resulting no anger and no greeding for fame.
